Green Living
Responsible people want green choices. We’ve all seen what is happening to our environment and want to play a part in doing right for the earth. Today, it’s clear that this concern for the environment is no longer a small minority interest.
As green-minded individuals, we know there are consequences to our actions and choices – through the food we eat, the travels we undertake and how we spend our leisure time. While we know that we can’t change the world or reverse all its ills in one day, we can make the difference in so many ways.
We don’t have to be passive consumers. We can become powerful players by giving recognition to greener products and services and spending our money on good choices. Green consumers are louder and more visible than ever before and we’re driving the demand for products and services.
Green goods and services can include:
- Goods that minimise energy use in their production
- Goods that can help minimise waste (such as reusable bags, home insulation and compost pile kits)
- Recycled products
- Products made without the use of chemicals that harm the environment
- Products and services from companies with a solid record for good employment practice
- Fair traded goods
- Products made locally – or nearby – to minimise the energy required in transportation
- Agricultural produce from cruelty-free sources
- Organic products
- Seafood caught or produced in a manner creating the least negative impact
- Services that deliberately avoid investments and associations with companies and governments with poor human rights and/or environmental records (such as ethical savings accounts and pensions)
Our efforts always pay off in the end. We can be healthier and help the environment. And if we can save a bit of money and have a great time in the process, who could argue with that?
